Freezing or Deactivating Your Child's Digital ID Card

To protect your child's security and ensure accurate account usage, it's important to freeze or deactivate any digital ID card that is lost, stolen, damaged, or no longer in use.

This guide explains the difference between the two actions and how to perform each:

What's the Difference?

Action Reusable? Use When
Freeze ✔️ Yes To temporarily freeze the ID card if you have lost or misplaced it. Your card can be ‘unfrozen’ and reused once it is found.
Deactivate No For permanently lost, stolen, or damaged ID cards — action cannot be undone and a replacement Leela’s card will need to be purchased.

Freezing a Digital ID Card

Use this when:
  • Your child has misplaced their Leela’s card and you want to make sure the card is not used whilst you try to locate it
  • If you find the card, simply unfreeze it to continue using it

Open the Spare Payments app

Tap your child’s name to open their profile

Tap the gear icon to enter settings

Go to the Digital IDs tab

Tap the three dots beside the ID you want to remove

Select "Freeze Digital ID"

Confirm by tapping "Yes, I'm sure"
Once 'frozen', the card cannot be used until you 'unfreeze' the card.

To 'unfreeze' the card, follow the above steps and at Step 6 simply select "unfreeze Digital ID" and confirm the action. The card will be active immediately and can be used in the Leela's canteen.

Deactivating a Digital ID card

Use this when:
  • The card is permanently lost, stolen, or damaged; and
  • You do not intend to reuse the card in the future
  • In the case of Deactivated cards, you will need to order a new card. This can either be done in the Spare app in the Online store, or by visiting the Leela's canteen

Follow steps 1–4 above to access the Digital IDs tab

Tap the three dots beside the relevant ID card

Select "Deactivate ID"

Select "Deactivate ID"
Once deactivated, the ID cannot be used again for security reasons and you will need to order a new card.
